Guest speaker: Derek Bodmer
Title/Position: Community Preparedness Coordinator at Wisconsin Emergency Management
Background: Derek began his career with Wisconsin Emergency Management (WEM) in January 2021 as a Public Assistance Specialist within the Recovery Section, where he facilitated FEMA’s Public Assistance program in the West-Central region of the state. After nearly three years in this position, Derek transitioned to the role of Community Preparedness Coordinator in November 2023 within the Response Planning and Support Section. In this capacity, he oversees the coordination of the Wisconsin Business Emergency Operations Center, the Wisconsin P3 Alliance, and supports the ongoing updates of the state's emergency response plans. As the WI BEOC Coordinator, he has provided planning and response support for various events, such as severe storms and the RNC in Milwaukee. Additionally, Derek represents the State of Wisconsin in several national public-private partnerships, including the All-Hazards Consortium, FEMA Region 5 Private Sector Partners Call, and the National Emergency Management Association’s Private Sector Liaison Work Group.
