Building a Culture of Collaboration
Brad Henske, MBCI, CBCP, CHPCP, CIPR
Director, Business Continuity Programs, Carilion Clinic
Most programs that contribute to a Business Continuity Management System (BCMS) are diverse and managed by different leaders across an organization. Building productive relationships with those leaders so that no one is territorial, is vital to successful crisis management. Among our five core values at Carilion Clinic are Collaboration and Commitment. In this presentation I share how demonstrating strong collaboration and team building, I committed to bring together Continuity of Operations, Emergency Management, Crisis Communications, IT Disaster Recovery, and Information Security to adopt BCMS best practices.
We collaborated at the strategic level to share each of our preparedness efforts to mitigate impacts of potential incidents, and to maintain situational awareness during crisis management. We formed a cohesive group of continuity partners using strategies to bridge the silos and egos in order to achieve true Operational Resilience. I share these strategies and provide a roadmap to success in a multidisciplinary environment where no one person manages all business continuity and resilience functions.
Brad Henske, MBCI, CBCP, CHPCP, CIPR, has more than 25 years of experience as a business continuity and resilience leader, and has directed the program for Carilion Clinic since 2020. He has published several thought leadership articles on BC&R topics and served as a conference speaker for DRJ and the BCI. He is also workshop certified in FEMA-NIMS, ICS, ERP, ASE, active aggressor, crisis management, and pandemic planning.
